Your LFX Profile Card

What the From Your LFX Profile card shows on the LFX Mentorship register, apply and profile pages, and how to edit your details or connect GitHub or LinkedIn from it.

Last updated

The From Your LFX Profile card shows the account details your mentorship profiles use. You do not type them into the mentorship forms. They come from your LFX account, and you fix them from the card.

Where you see it

The card sits at the top of these pages:

Page Where
Become a Mentor app.lfx.dev/mentorship/mentor
Mentor Profile tab app.lfx.dev/mentorship/mentor/profile
Become a Mentee app.lfx.dev/mentorship/mentee
The apply page Opened from a program's Apply to This Program button
Mentee Profile tab app.lfx.dev/mentorship/mentee/profile

What it shows

  • Your picture and name.
  • Your email addresses. Your primary address is marked Primary.
  • Mailing Address and Phone.
  • GitHub and LinkedIn — the account you have connected, or a Connect button.

A field your LFX profile leaves empty shows "Not provided".

Edit your LFX profile

  1. On the card, select Edit LFX Profile. The Edit Profile panel opens on the right. You stay on the mentorship page.
  2. Change the details you want.
  3. Select Save Changes.

The card updates straight away. Your new name, email and picture are also copied onto your mentor and mentee profiles, if you have them. On a register page, the details on the card when you select Submit are the ones your new profile uses.

The first time you save in a session, or after your authorization has expired, you may be asked to authorize the change first. When you do, you land on Profile & Account rather than back on the mentorship page. Anything you had typed into the mentorship form and not submitted is lost, and the new details are not copied onto your mentorship profiles. Go back to the mentorship page and save from Edit LFX Profile again to copy them. To avoid losing a half-filled form, edit your LFX profile before you start a register form.

The panel is the same one used under Profile & Account. See Edit Your Profile for its fields and limits.

Connect GitHub or LinkedIn

Connect appears on the GitHub or LinkedIn row when you have not connected that account yet.

  1. Select Connect. The Add identity dialog opens.
  2. Select Continue with GitHub (or Continue with LinkedIn).
  3. Sign in to that account and approve the link.

You leave the page to sign in. Where you come back to depends on the page you started from:

  • From Become a Mentor, you come back to the same page with the account on the card and the message "Identity linked successfully." A connected GitHub account is also added to your mentorship profiles as a link.
  • From any other page, you land on Profile & Account → Identities, which shows the new account. Your GitHub link is not added to your mentorship profiles yet. Go back to the mentorship page, select Edit LFX Profile, then Save Changes to add it. A register form you submit afterwards picks it up on its own.

Anything you have typed into a form on the page and not yet submitted is lost when you leave to sign in. Connect your accounts before you fill in a register form.
