Edit Your Profile
How to update your personal information, photo, location, and contact details in LFX Self Serve, including the About Me character limit.
Last updated
Use the Profile section to keep your account information current. Your profile helps community members identify and connect with you, helps event organizers plan in-person meetups, and ensures you receive contributor recognition and swag. Some of these details can also appear on your public profile when you make it public.
Where profile details live
Your name, photo, About Me, primary email, and location are edited in the Edit Profile drawer described below. Other account areas — work history and affiliations, identities, individual enrollment, CLAs, transactions, and settings — live under the Account section.
Edit your personal details
Your personal details are edited in the Edit Profile drawer, not directly on the page.
- Sign in to app.lfx.dev.
- Select Profile & Account from the left navigation sidebar.
- In the profile panel on the right, select Edit profile. A drawer opens from the right side.
- Update the fields you want to change (see the tables below).
- Select Save Changes. The button stays disabled until you have made a change.
Two changes apply immediately, not on Save: uploading a profile picture and selecting a primary email address each save on their own as soon as you make them. Closing the drawer with Cancel does not undo those two — it only discards unsaved text fields (About Me, name, job title, location, and so on).
Profile picture
Select the pencil button on your avatar to upload a new image. The upload happens immediately when you pick a file — it is not held until Save Changes.
- Accepted formats: PNG, JPEG, or WEBP.
- Maximum size: 2 MB.

Optionally select a t-shirt size (Fitted-Cut Small–2XL, or Straight-Cut Small–3XL) so event organizers can plan swag.
The About Me character limit
The About Me field holds up to 2,000 characters. A live counter below the field shows how many you have used (for example, 250 / 2000). When you reach the limit, additional typing or pasting is ignored so you never exceed it.
Most characters — including a simple emoji — count as one, even though an emoji takes more space to store. A few elaborate emoji (such as flags or combined "family" glyphs) are built from several joined characters and count as more than one. This matches the limit the Linux Foundation applies when your profile is saved.
Set your organization
The Organization field in the drawer is chosen from your work experience. To add or change a work experience entry, open the Work history & Affiliations tab (/profile/attributions) in the Account section — your work experience populates the Organization choices here.
Email, password, and API token
Adding or verifying email addresses, changing your password, and your developer API token are managed in the Settings tab (/profile/settings), part of the Account section — see Settings. The Edit Profile drawer only sets which of your verified addresses is primary.
