Become a Mentee
How to register a mentee profile in LFX Self Serve before applying to a mentorship program.
Last updated
Registering creates your mentee profile. Program mentors read it when they review your application, so it has to exist before you can apply.
Before you begin
- Sign in to LFX Self Serve at app.lfx.dev with your Linux Foundation account.
- You must be at least 18, or turn 18 by the time the program starts, and able to commit consistent hours for a full term.
- Have your introduction, the skills you have, and the skills you want to learn ready.
Steps
- Go to app.lfx.dev/mentorship/mentee.
- Fill in the registration form:
- About me — a short introduction for mentors.
- Skills you have and skills you want — add them from the skills list. You can add up to 100 skills of up to 300 characters each.
- Country of residence — required; the form will not submit without it.
- Complete the Demographics section if you wish. It is optional, and you can answer "prefer not to say" to any of it.
- Tick each statement under Eligibility Requirements:
- You are at least 18, or will be by the time the program starts.
- You are eligible to work in the country you live in for the duration of the mentorship.
- You do not have another mentee profile and are not taking part in another Linux Foundation mentorship program.
- Read the export-controls statement and confirm it applies to you.
- Acknowledge the platform terms.
- Submit the form.
After completing
You land on My Mentorship, your mentee area, which has three tabs: Overview, My Tasks and Mentee Profile.
If you already have a mentee profile, returning to the Mentee area does not show the form again — it takes you straight to your overview, or to the apply page when you arrived from a program link.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Your profile is in conflict with an existing record." | Refresh the page and try again. |
| "You are viewing as another user, so registration is read-only." | You are in a view-as session; leave it and register as yourself. |
| "Check your registration" | A required field is missing or a skill exceeds the limits. |
| "We could not accept your registration. Please confirm the eligibility statements and try again." | One of the Eligibility Requirements is not ticked. |
